Originally located just a few miles east of its current home with just 4,300 sq. ft. the Thrift Store / Donation Center moved to 7000 Grand River Road in November of 2007.  As the first occupant of the brand new 25,000 sq. ft. site, The Salvation Army experienced enough support from the community to warrant expanding the store to 31,424 sq. ft. just one year later.  Its 49 employees are assisted by 7 ARC Program beneficiaries.  This store features 7 fitting rooms, easy access to parking and a convenient donation drop off center at the rear of the building.

 

Macomb County Locations

Opened in the fall of 2002 at a site which was formerly occupied by a ‘for profit’ thrift store, it enjoyed a ready made thrift shopping customer base.  At 21,500 sq. ft. this store has 6 fitting rooms, plenty of free parking and a convenient donation drop off site at the rear of the store.  The staff of 32 employees is assisted regularly by 1 ARC Program beneficiary and 1 volunteer.  It is conveniently located on 10 Mile Rd., just west of major thoroughfare VanDyke and minutes south of I-696.

Now in our larger location! The former loction opened in March 2003 in space formerly occupied by several smaller retail stores, this 19,000 sq. ft. store is just across a parking lot from its former 5,500 sq. ft. site which it replaced.  Now quadrupled in size, this busy store features a bright interior with high ceilings and 5 fitting rooms.  This location has convenient parking, and a donation center located at the south end of the building.  Donation attendants are on duty 362 days of the year (closed on Easter and Christmas Day).  This site provides employment for 32 people who are assisted daily by 3 ARC Program Beneficiaries.

Originally opened with just 11,649 sq. ft. in 2002, it was expanded in July of 2007 to include the adjoining space formerly occupied by a JoAnne Fabric Store.  Now at 24,018 sq. ft. it is stocked to serve the growing community.  This store currently has 5 fitting rooms, plenty of free parking and a convenient donation drop of center located at the rear of the building.  It has 31 employees who are assisted by 2 ARC Program beneficiaries and 2 volunteers. On August 24, 2012 this location moved 1.5 miles to the west to a larger 30,000 sq. ft. location on 23 Mile Rd. The new location was built in 1970 and is the site of a former Tractor Supply Company. We are very thankful to the surrounding communities support that requires us to keep expanding this location.

This 31,000 sq. ft. opened in October of 2004 in the Adam’s Corner Shopping Plaza.  The site which had been vacant after having been formerly occupied by the Camall Company, was converted to Salvation Army use and now includes 7 fitting rooms, plenty of parking and a convenient donation drop off site which is supported by the community.  This site provides employment to 35 people who are assisted by 1 volunteer.

This 33,010 sq. ft. store in the Shelby Square Shopping Plaza was opened in October of 2008.  The site is that of the former Schwark’s, then Klingman’s Furniture Stores, converted to its present use with 6 fitting rooms, plenty of lighted parking and a donation drop off site convenient to the surrounding neighborhood residents.  This location employs 35 people who are assisted regularly by 5 ARC Program beneficiaries and 2 volunteers.

This 25,800 sq. ft. store located in the Shores Plaza opened in November of 2006 in retail space formerly occupied by a Burlington Coat Factory Store.  Completely remodeled for Salvation Army use, this store replaced the tiny 8,815 sq. ft. St. Clair Shores site formerly located just a few miles south.  This expanded location has 9 fitting rooms, plenty of parking and a convenient donation drop off site.  This site employs a total of 35 people who are assisted by regularly by 4 ARC Program beneficiaries and 3 volunteers.

This 30,000 sq. ft. store was opened in the Dodge Park Plaza in August 2005. Formerly the site of a grocery store, the interior was completely gutted to remove refrigeration units and other unneeded items and remodeled for its current use.  The store has a well lit, carpeted interior with 8 spacious fitting rooms and plenty of free parking.  The site provides employment to 35 people who are assisted regularly by 3 ARC Program beneficiaries.

This store was opened in September of 2008 at the site of a former ‘Media Play’ store in the Northpointe Shopping Plaza, and replacing a smaller Salvation Army Thrift Store which had been in Utica (on Van Dyke) since 2003.  At 49,248 sq. ft. the new site over twice the size of the ‘original’ Utica store, and the largest Salvation Army Thrift Store in the United States.  Located in an area of growth, it offers to the financially diverse community a huge selection of  high quality goods, 10 fitting rooms and a convenient donation drop off site at the east side of the building.  It provides employment for 50 people who are assisted daily by 6 ARC program beneficiaries.

This store opened in July 2001 in the Auburn Hills Plaza, in an 18,200 sq. ft. building formerly occupied by a grocery store.  Completely remodeled for Salvation Army use, the store is carpeted and has 4 spacious fitting rooms.  It is conveniently located on Opdyke Rd., just north of South Boulevard, with easy freeway access.  This location serves residents of Auburn Hills as well as the surrounding communities including northeast Bloomfield Hills, northwest Troy and eastern Pontiac.   This site has ample lighted parking, and a convenient donation center located at the rear of the building with attendants on duty 362 days of the year (closed on just Easter and Christmas Day).   The stores 32 employees are assisted regularly by 3 ARC Program Beneficiaries.

This former Farmer Jack grocery store in the Independence Square Shopping Center was reopened as a Salvation Army Thrift Store in November of 2009.  At 40,124 sq. ft. takes its place in line as the 3rd largest store in the fleet, just 71 sq. ft. behind the Rochester Hills store.  This site provides employment to approximately 55 full and part time employees.  Located just off of the well travelled I-75, it offers easy access for donation drop off and an outstanding selection for shoppers.

Opened in November of 2004 in a former A&P building it replaced the smaller Salvation Army Thrift Store formerly located just 3 miles east.  At 22,125 sq. ft., it has 6 fitting rooms and serves the financially diverse community with both great shopping and a convenient donation drop off center located at the rear of the building.  The 33 employees that comprise the staff are assisted regularly by 2 ARC Program beneficiaries and 3 volunteers.

At 21,024 sq. ft. this is mid sized store within the Southeast Michigan fleet.  The leased site, formerly home to Carla’s Fresh Fruit Market opened its doors as a Salvation Army Thrift Store in November of 2009.   Located on a busy stretch of Lapeer Rd. (M-24) in the village of Oxford, the site offers to the community a convenient location to shop and / or drop off their donations while helping The Salvation Army in ‘Doing the Most Good’.  In addition to supporting The Salvation Army’s Southeast MI A.R.C., this site provides employment to approximately 40 full and part time employees.

Opened in 1984 with 15,375 sq. ft., this stand-alone store features a spacious sales floor and 3 convenient fitting rooms.  This site has plenty of free parking available by way of the paved lot adjacent to the store.  Located within Pontiac, it serves the surrounding community by providing convenient thrift shopping, a donation center (located at the rear of the building) with attendants on duty daily, as well as employment to 14 people.

Originally opened in the spring of 1997 in the Auburn-John R Square Shopping Plaza, the store occupied 30,124 sq. ft. of the former (A&P) building which it shared with then next door neighbor “Whirley Ball”. High shopper volume and strong donor support led to the stores expansion in 2003, which increased its size to 40,213 sq. ft.  At that time it took on the distinction of being the largest Salvation Army Thrift Store in the country.  In 2007 the sales floor was increased further when a small boutique area was added by reclaiming space once used for a training room.  Additional remodeling, executed in the spring of 2009 was done as both a matter of maintenance, and to keep pace with shopping trends.  This expansive store has 7 fitting rooms, plenty of free parking and a convenient donation drop off center located at the rear of the building.  It provides employment to 50 people who are assisted regularly by 15 ARC Program beneficiaries and 4 volunteers.

Located in trendy and bustling downtown Royal Oak, the site opened sometime prior to 1995 and enjoys the patronage of shoppers who arrive by car and on foot. This 7,934 sq. ft. store holds the distinction of having the smallest square footage of all of the stores in the Southeast MI ARC’s ‘chain’.  Remodeled most recently in 2008, it offers a spacious fitting room for the convenience of shoppers.  Parking, both street side and in city owned lots is available nearby.  Donations are accepted daily through the donation center located at the west (ally) side of the building.  This location provides employment to 13 people who are assisted daily by 3 ARC Program Beneficiaries, and regularly by 1 volunteer.

Opened in April 2006 in a building formerly used as boat showroom, this 21,000 sq. ft. replaced The Salvation Army’s former 7,547 sq. ft. Thrift Store which had been located a few miles east on Highland Road.   In addition to the now tripled sales floor, the site provides ample parking and donation drop off space, air-conditioned comfort and 4 fitting rooms in a spacious shopping environment.  This site provides employment to 34 people who are assisted regularly by 4 ARC Program beneficiaries and 11 volunteers.

 

Washtenaw County Locations

Opened in October 2005 in what was formerly a used book store which also sub-let space to a small thrift store.  Now occupied completely by The Salvation Army, the 33,616 sq. ft. site is one of our more ‘green’ sites, featuring concrete floors and a gravel parking lot directly adjacent to the store.  Built originally as an industrial site, air conditioning was added as a customer comfort in the spring of 2008.  The open floor plan features high, open ceilings and 10 fitting rooms.  Located close to the U of M campus it serves students and local families, as well as bargain hunters of all kinds.  This location provides employment for 35 people who are assisted regularly by 8 ARC Program beneficiaries and 2 volunteers.

Long standing in this location, it opened in 1988 with 16,650 sq. ft.  Remodeled most recently in 2002, it now features 2 fitting rooms.   Located on the busy thoroughfare of 8 Mile Rd., just west of Mound Rd., this site serves the Detroit and Warren communities.  Convenient free parking is available in the adjoining parking lot with easy access to the on-site donation center which has attendants on duty daily.   It provides employment to 20 people who are assisted regularly by 4 volunteers.

Opened in October 2006 in a building formerly used as a manufacturing site by Detroit Ball Bearing, this 17,048 sq. ft. store is located on the edge of Downtown Detroit, in historic ‘Corktown’.   This store replaced a previous nearby location just blocks away within the Southeast Michigan ARC/Detroit Campus building. The new site provides convenient free parking in the adjoining parking lot.  Its carpeted interior features 2 spacious fitting rooms.  This location provides employment to 21 people who are assisted daily by 1 ARC Program Beneficiary.

Opened in 1982 at the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Central in a highly populated urban neighborhood, the 8,500 sq. ft. building has for years provided convenient affordable shopping to residents of the southwest Detroit community.  This store is easily accessible by bus or car.  Free parking is available at the adjacent parking lot at the rear of the building.  Donations are accepted on site.   This location provides employment to 8 people who are assisted regularly by 1 volunteer. 

This store will be offering all items* for just $1 each. Once the new pricing is in place this location will no longer be part of the 50% Off Sales. This location will continue to provide the same quality of Clothing, Housewares, Shoes and other items as you have come to expect. This location will no longer particiate in the 50% Off Clothing Sales.

Located in front of Oakwood Heritage Hospital on Telegraph south of Wick Rd, this Former Farmer Jack originally built in 1998 will be transformed into our newest Thrift Store and Donation Center supported by 40 employees and 5 ARC program beneficiaries.
